“I also love to reference old iconic pubs, hotels and venues of the Gold Coast that are now memories for many locals, such as the Playroom at Tallebudgera, the Patch at Coolangatta, or the old Currumbin Hotel on the creek.”

“Viewing the art from a range of perspectives offers an opportunity to appreciate the complexity and imagination of colour within the work, ” she says.

“While the world can be heavy at times, there is much joy and lightness and beauty to be found if only we can change our perspective, ” she says.

The annual Sand Safari Arts Festival will return to the Gold Coast next March as Beyond the Sand for its 10th anniversary.

Beyond the Sand will transform Surfers Paradise into a captivating beachfront gallery of colour, movement and music with larger-than life artworks. The reimagined festival is putting a modern spin on the loved local classic.

The free multi-medium arts festival will be held across nine spectacular days and nights from the 13th to 21st of March 2021. The event will not only see a name change, but evolve beyond just ‘sandcastles’, showcasing eight large-scale installations as well as artworks that will travel from showrooms to Beyond the Sand’s beachside artist gallery.

The 2021 event will be circus-themed offering entertainment for the entire family. The festival will still offer the best in sand sculptures, bringing 10 artists to compete in the annual Australian Sand Sculpting Championships and feature two large-scale circus-themed sculptures along the beachfront. In a sign of the times, voting will go digital in 2021 to crown the People’s Choice Award.

Iconic sculptor Dion Parker will return to the sand, as one of the local artists showcasing a range of work at the festival’s Artist Gallery. The Gold Coast local is thrilled to bring his multidisciplinary visual art to the foreshore once again.

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Beyond the Sand festival in 2021 for the 10th anniversary. The Australian art scene is often overlooked, so to be contributing to such a vibrant festival at the iconic Surfers Paradise beach, is an honour” said Mr Parker.
